Reader high speed vertical engine

A high speed vertical engine built by E.Reader & Sons of the Phoenix Engine Works, Nottingham. The company was formed in 1917 and built many of these engine for use in pumping and generating applications.

Beautifully made and carefully balanced, with wet sump lubrication and generous bearing surfaces for continuous high speed operation, the engines were made in a variety of sizes, this being one of the smallest we've seen.

Whilst the exterior is in "barn find" condition, the engine turns over very smoothly and runs beautifully on air, down to a slow tickover.
