A.G.Mumford inverted vertical engine

A full-size inverted vertical engine by A.G.Mumford of Colchester, possibly originally intended to drive a pump.

Of substantial construction, evidently designed for long periods of continuous running, it has robustly proportioned motionwork and generous bearing surfaces.

An older restoration the engine is complete and turns over freely, running on air in somewhat desultory fashion. One main shaft has been cut short at some time in the engine's past, apparently without detriment to its function.
