Stuart 5A

Largest of the Stuart vertical engines, the 5A is more a small real engine than large model - many have found there way into generating sets or small full-size steam boats. A powerful engine, 2 1/4 bore x 2 inch stroke with large bearing surfaces, it can produce 5/8 bhp at 60 psi working pressure.

This engine is complete except for the eccentric sheave, strap and rod. A start has been made to make up the reversing gear and includes castings for the weighshaft brackets, reversing lever, locking plate and expansion link. The eccentric straps are missing - I have included a (non-matched) pair of castings that could be suitably machined, using either one to get the engine going quickly or, for the more ambitious, both to make up a reversing version.
