Stuart "BB" vertical engine

A vintage Stuart "BB" vertical engine, complete with displacement lubricator and still fitted with the rear aluminium crankcase cover, unique to - and frequently missing from - this type.

Conceived as a fully enclosed engine with overhung, ball bearing (hence "BB") crankshaft, the design was introduced in 1924 and remained in Stuart Turner's range until 1941.

Frequently found powering the racing hydroplanes so popular at the time - as well as being highly suited for generating, coupled to a dynamo - the engine was rated for continuous running at 4000rpm.

Rather a rare find these days, particularly in this condition - by some margin the nicest one we've seen.

There is further information and pictures - including their pre-war advertisements for the engine - on Stuart Models' website here.
