Vertical boiler

A large vertical boiler, of welded steel construction with expanded copper tubes. It stands two feet tall, with a 6 3/4 inch diameter barrel, and weighs in at just over half a hundredweight.

This one has come to us from a long-time customer, a highly capable engineer whose work has featured regularly in these pages.

A hydraulic test showed minor leaks from four tube ends which require expanding; the fittings and gauge glass all leak, the pressure gauge reads accurately.

From a visual inspection it appears well made, complete with fittings and attractively finished, the wood cladding secured with brass bands. However, with no previous history it will need to be stripped for a bare shell inspection and test before use.
