Vertical compound engine with reversing gear

The work of a prolific and highly accomplished engineer with locomotives, steam wagons and several excellent aero engines to his credit, fit and finish of the engine is to the highest standards throughout.

Fitted with Stephenson's gear, handwheel actuated reversing through a fast-actiing Acme screw. There are oilers and oil troughs for trunk guides and bearings, with a mechanical lubricator for the cylinders.

The balanced crank is supported in three substantial bearings, with an outrigger bearing for the feed pump eccentric. The engine turns over without any hint of wear in the motion work or valve gear, it runs beautifully on air.
