7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 1366 0-6-0PT

A 7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 1366 0-6-0PT, built to the Keith Wilson design. A total of six were built in the class, often used for shunting duties in the docks - three were stationed at Weymouth for the purpose, they combined power with an ability to negotiate very tight curves.

This one's an older model, it's come from a long-time customer of ours in part exchange for a 5 inch gauge Great Western engine - he'd found the size and weight of this one too much to heave about. Too good to be classified as a project, it's offered here as a running restoration.

Boiler is sound and has had a twice working pressure hydraulic test. It runs well, notching up nearly to mid gear in both directions, pumps are both effective - there's some video of it running outside the workshop here.

Regulator rod has been made in steel, which wasn't the brightest choice of material for something working inside a boiler - it's corroded just about right through and will require replacement before the engine is used again.

Paintwork is tired throughout, the cab rear sheet is detachable, although probably detached from a different engine entirely - it's close, but not quite a fit in this one.
