3 1/2 inch gauge "Hielan Lassie"

A 3 1/2 inch gauge LNER Pacific to LBSC's "Hielan Lassie" design.

It has come to use recently from an 82 year old gentleman who has finally decided, after 49 years, it's time to part with the engine which he first bought in 1972. Believed to have been built as a three cylinder engine in the late 1950s or early 60s, as per the "words and music", it had been converted to two cylinder prior to his purchase - in a sorry state by that time, the new owner rebuilt it, overhauling all valve gear and re-quartering the wheels.

Recently fitted with a new stainless steel grate and ashpan, the engine was last steamed in August for the club boiler inspector who issued a new certificate expiring in September 2022, with next hydraulic test due in 2024. The engine had an extended run on the club track at that time.

The boiler - now over sixty years old - looks robustly constructed. Under hydraulic test in our workshop there were various minor pinhole leaks when cold - evidenced by beads of water forming - which would take up under steam (and probably have been doing for many years).

Complete with a pair of storage boxes.
